I’ve officially become one of those people you detest…

Cycle1, Week2, Day4. All is well. I’m feeling good. The side effects have been minimal, just some sensitivity to eating and drinking cold foods. I’m sleeping a lot too; I don’t know if that’s from the chemo meds, my lack of physical activities, or just plain laziness. So, all in all, aside from continuing to recover from the abdominal surgery and medi-port install, I’m doing well. I had a fun road trip up to Tahoe last weekend - watched Patrick, Rob, and Bo do Xterra (congrats guys!); caught up with my good friend and colleague Karen Hovorka; saw Gigi, and had a surprise appearance by Kenny Wong! On Sunday, I moved back home. So far, so good.
This is where the guilt comes in. I feel like I’m one of those people you hear about and are disgusted by their behavior. You know, the person who is on work disability, and is photographed by the insurance company doing fun adventurous activities. I’M THAT PERSON! I’m also that person who has a handicap parking permit but is completely capable of walking!!*
I’ve got to get past this guilt and channel my energies into something more positive and productive. I’m going to do the normal things I’ve never taken the time to do. I’m going to get rid of the clutter in my house, clean out my closet, and learn to cook (yes, I can hear everyone laughing; instead of laughing, send me your favorite recipe). This zucchini, compliments of Patrick, Suzanne, Fred, and Glenn, is my first project; I think bread is on the agenda! Take that, insurance company!!
*My 12-year-old niece, Demetra, has made me agree that I do not use the permit if there is only 1 handicap spot left! I’ve only violated this once (when she wasn’t with me) and will never do it again unless I’m with my Mom.

Leslie: Hello Caroline! I am thoroughly enjoying reading your posts! And love the fact that there's a picture of you so I can make the connection. Maybe we'll see each other in the office. I'm typically in there every third Friday. It sounds like things are going very well for you. WONDERFUL news! Keep up the fight!
Amy Grenfell: Caroline! It's funny, but I was actually thinking about you recently and wondering how the hotel in Wyoming panned out. I spoke to one of our esteemed colleagues this week (or former colleague for me as I left Accenture in March) and she mentioned that I needed to check out your blog. So far while reading. . . I have cried and laughed out loud. You are an amazing person and please know that someone in far-away-Wyoming is thinking about you during this journey. You are in my thoughts.-Amy Grenfell
Hovo: Meowmi, it is your job now to rest your body and take care of it. Even if you feel fine, it still needs its R&R. So stop worrying and use the handicap sticker if you ever need to. NO GUILT.But if you really want to feel guilty, then try this recipe for zucchini chocolate chip cookies. I found it the other day. They sound yummy and easy enough for you, haha! http://www.food.com/recipe/... Good luck!Great seeing you and catching up! :)
lauriemeowmikehl: #1 - You'll NEVER be one of those people I detest #2 - Wow Patrick, impressive Zucchini
Amadraeus: Liner, you are definately not detestable,... you are much too lovable. Btw, what is that next to the zucchini? Is it a ruler? It almost looks like a thermometer.
Bruder: You're also THAT person that stands in the express line with 20 items! ;-)
