My “staycation” is coming to an end …

Without a doubt, the best thing I did for myself was take the additional 6 months off work. THANK goodness my doctor and Accenture were okay with this. It’s given me the time I needed to recover, recuperate, and adjust to living with cancer. It also gave me time to explore the bay area and spend more time with my friends and family (see list below).
The biggest change I’ve made in life is with respect to my diet. I’m no longer a salami and cheese gal. I’m no longer drinking a Starbucks mocha daily. I’m leaning vegetarian and am more aware of the foods I’m eating. And, I’m stuffing myself every morning with a smoothie filled with blueberries, strawberries, greens, flaxseed, protein powder, pomegranate seeds, cinnamon, cumin, and green tea!
I go back to work on June 17th. My medical leave is just shy of being away for 1 year. It feels as though I’m going to start a new job. I’ll be back at Accenture with the same group in a similar role. It’s been suggested that I go back part time, but I figure that I’ve had enough time-off that I’ll be able to jump in at 100%. It helps that I work from home. That makes it a bit easier to ease back into the routine of things.
I also feel that I’m able to get back to work full time as I’ve been spending a lot of time on Wipeout Cancer. Wipeout Cancer is an initiative started by my friends and I. Our objective is to increase cancer awareness and give back to the cancer community. Our goal is to raise $50,000 in 5 years ($50,000 is the amount I won on Wipeout; 5 years is the standard time measure of cancer survival rates). For now, our focus is on a Sports Day for Charity that will be on July 27th in Campbell, CA. The event will consist of the activities I love – volleyball, bike riding, and a kids obstacle course! Check us out here: www.wipeout-cancer.org, or like us on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/WipeoutCancer. If I can work on this, I should be able to go back to work!
That’s it! Thank you, everyone, for reading my blog and for your wonderful support! I could not have survived this last year without YOU! The gifts, cards, flowers, plants, suggestions, words of encouragement, food, dinners, time hanging out, etc, were very therapeutic and carried amazing healing powers. I feel stronger and better thanks to all of YOU!
